Dwarka Temple


Dwarka temple, also known as Dwarkadhish temple, is a Hindu temple located in the city of Dwarka in the western Indian state of Gujarat. The temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna, who is also known as Dwarkadhish, and is considered one of the most important pilgrimage sites in India.

The temple is believed to have been built around 2,200 years ago by Vajranath, the great-grandson of Lord Krishna. It is said to have been built over the original residence of Lord Krishna, and it is believed that the temple stands at the same spot where Lord Krishna lived during his lifetime.


The temple is a five-storied structure that stands on 72 pillars, and it is made of sandstone. The main shrine of the temple houses a 2.25-meter-tall black idol of Lord Krishna, which is said to have been installed by Lord Krishna's great-grandson, Vajranath.

The temple has several other shrines dedicated to different gods and goddesses, including Devi Rukmini, Lord Balarama, and Lord Jagannath. The temple is also home to several smaller temples, which are dedicated to different deities.

  1. By Road: The distance between Somnath and Dwarka is around 240 km, and it takes approximately 5 hours to reach by road. You can hire a taxi or take a bus from Somnath to Dwarka.

  2. By Train: Another way to travel from Somnath to Dwarka is by train. There are direct trains available from Somnath to Dwarka, which takes around 3-4 hours to reach. The Dwarka railway station is located at a distance of around 2 km from the Dwarkadhish temple.

  3. By Air: The nearest airport to Dwarka is located in Jamnagar, which is around 145 km away from Dwarka. From Jamnagar, you can hire a taxi or take a bus to reach Dwarka.
